RACC’s Mission Statement

The Russian-American Cultural Center at Russia Wharf, Inc. is a non-profit educational corporation devoted to the historical research and cultural programming that promote mutual understanding and appreciation between Russians and Americans. The center is devoted to providing access to available humanitarian resources that help individuals and families with ties from Russia participate effectively in their communities

For over 16 years the Russian-American Cultural Center has played a significant role in the cultural life of Boston's vibrant and diverse Russian-speaking community. Tireless director Margaret "Peggy" Coleman has almost single-handedly built the center from its original home on Atlantic Avenue's historic Russia Wharf to a busy, multi-resource center on Chinatown's Tyler Street. The Center welcomes everyone - from people in the community, to tourists, to Russians who are visiting or residing in this country and need a cultural refuge, a place where their traditions, values and language are understood. The Center is a place where the samovar is always warm and visitors are treated to Peggy's unique brand of Russian-American hospitality.

Upcoming Concerts
The center is selling tickets for upcoming Russian-themed concerts in the Boston area.  See our events page for details.

Your Support is Needed!

The Russian-American Cultural Center needs to find a new home.

This environment and our services are in desperate danger as we are in need of a new home.  We believe that our organizations could mutually benefit from a partnership.  We are looking for a small space to operate 3 days a week in your offices.  In return, we offer many cultural, legal and social services designed to supplement and enhance your business and outreach programming.   Please consider investing in a future partnership.  We hope you will accept our invitation to visit us in Boston and to discuss future possibilities and opportunities for both our organizations.
Contact the center for more details on how you can help.

At the center we like to

Tell stories

Like all immigrants and visitors to this country, the Russians have brought many unique and outstanding gifts. Many stories of their important contributions over the centuries have yet to be told and deserve a wider audience. One of the missions of the Center is to bring these long-forgotten and neglected stories to light. Independently, Peggy has conducted extensive research in archives tracing Russia's fruitful trade partnership with the young, post-revolutionary country known as the United States.

Just a fraction of the rich history the two countries -- young and old, pre and post-revolutionary--shared can be explored in the section About our History

Promote Culture

Russian music, art and literature is revered throughout the world. The Center has been working tirelessly to promote various dimensions of Russian and Russian-American culture and history to audiences in the United States and Russia.

The Center's cultural calendar celebrates Russian holidays--both religious and national. Visitors are invited to greet the Russian New Year among friends, sing Russian folk songs and sample torte (cake) and chai (tea) with Peggy during International Women's Day. On any given day, visitors can enjoy watercolors and oils by Russian artists or listen to poems and music of Vladimir Vysotsky or other beloved Russian bards.

Visit our Events & Exhibitons section for more details.

Show off

The center has been helping Russian and Russian-American artists and performers to find a proper setting where they can "show-off" their works and talents to the public through exhibitions, recitals and seminars

Open doors

The Center can help you with a myriad of services--whether it's a document that needs to be translated or an interpreter needed for an afternoon, we have the connections and know-how to help you. Peggy herself is a Russian speaker with a profound knowledge and understanding of Russia and Russian culture and has deep and long-standing connections within the Russian-speaking community. She can act as a consultant on a research project or can speak to community groups about virtually any aspect of Russia and Russian culture.
